We welcome thoughtful pitches that help readers make sense of everyday technology, use digital tools more deliberately or handle a common task with less friction.
What we are looking for
Propose practical explainers, clear how-to guides, considered comparisons of approaches, or accessible accounts of a technology issue that affects ordinary use. A strong idea has a defined reader, answers a real question and offers more than a list of tips or a product promotion.
Make the pitch specific
Tell us the proposed subject, the central point, who the piece serves and why it belongs with The Useful Margin. Include a brief outline and any relevant experience or relationship that could affect how readers understand the piece. Do not send confidential material or claim testing or research that has not taken place.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and select the editorial question option, then identify the message as a contribution pitch. Please send a proposal rather than an unsolicited full manuscript. A pitch is not a promise of publication, and we may edit accepted work for clarity, accuracy and fit.
